The Kangra Co-operative Primary Agriculture and Rural Development Bank is functioning in three districts namely Kangra, Hamirpur and Una.
The Kangra Co-operative Primary Agriculture and Rural Development Bank Ltd, Dharamshala Distt. Kangra (H.P) was registered under the cooperative Societies Act, 1968 as a Society and established in the year 1966 at the time of re-organization of the erstwhile Punjab State. Initially, the name of the Bank was “Land Mortgage Bank “which was later on changed to “Land Development Bank”. During November 1987 and ultimately it again changed to “The Kangra Cooperative Primary Agriculture & Rural Development Bank Ltd”. It is a federal unit of H.P. State Cooperative Agriculture and Rural Development Bank Ltd, Shimla having its jurisdiction in three districts namely Kangra, Hamirpur and Una.
Brief History of KPARDB
Initially, there was only one branch of this bank at Dharmshala. The bank earned popularity among the people and thus, on public demand during the year 1979, four new branches at Hamirpur, Nurpur, Palampur and Una, were opened. Subsequently, the volume of business expanded and uptill now, 30 branches are functioning (15 in Kangra, 8 in Hamirpur and 7 Branches in Una Distt.) and providing valuable services to the member customers to the best of their need and satisfaction. Till date, approx. 34000 farmer families have become member of this bank and availing its services.
This bank is functioning as a developmental agency of the state government under the department of cooperation. The Bank is providing medium & long term financial assistance for all Agriculture & allied activities (including purchase tractors, agricultures implements), Non Farm Sector for setting up of cottage & tiny villages industries, workshops, hotel-dhaba units, purchase of transport vehicles, taxis, truck as well as for the construction of house in its area of operation. The activities and services of this bank have generated employment avenues to the rural un-employed youth, artisans & improving their economic status. Not only this, the bank has also started accepting deposits from its members in the form of FD,RD and Daily Deposit accounts, and inculcating the habits of thrift and credit among them. This bank is functioning on the principle of “by the people, for the people” and with common noble cause and socio economic welfare of poor and needy people of the state.
